Pros Week

A massive thank you to everyone who played in the Pros Week of competitions your support is much appreciated.

Thursday Beat the Pro Medal

I went out first thing on Thursday morning to hopefully set you all a difficult score to beat, things did not quite go to plan to finish with a 75. Well done to the 44 players that shot 74 or better you have all got vouchers in the Pro Shop. The twos money is also in the Pro Shop as vouchers.

Saturday Beat the Pro double Greensome

This is the first time I have played this format and I found it quite enjoyable. Lee Clarke and I set you all a difficult score of 65, so only shooting 64 would be good enough to beat us. Only four teams managed to do this:

T.Fearing and T. Ducksbury 63.2.
M Mitchell and M Gray 64.2.
M Archer and D Spalding 64.2.
M Walsh and L Hutchinson 64.6.

Well done gents your voucher of £75.00 each are in the Pro Shop ready for collection along with vouchers for the twos on the day.

Hole-in-one alert!

Congratulations to Peter Gilchrist for achieving a hole-in-one on the 8th hole with are very difficult flag position on Saturday.

Nearest the Pins from the week prizes are all in the Pro Shop and ready for collection. I’m away at the moment, so I have not got a list for you - if your name was on one, please ask in the shop if you were the winner.

Porsche 911 for the weekend winner

Thanks to Porsche Centre Nottingham for putting up the prize of a 911 for the weekend to one lucky person who played in the Pros Week of comps. The draw was done on Saturday after we had played and was drawn by Peter Gilchrist. The Lucky winner is John Walmsley, congratulations hope you have a great time in it. Please let me know when you would like the car and I will organise the rest.

Cut yourself some slack

It makes sense that the closer the ball is to the hole the more chance we have of holing it, but how much easier is a 5-foot putt than a 10-foot putt? Well, here are some stats taken from the PGA Tour's website the week after this year's PGA Championship, which we think makes for interesting reading…

Percentage of putts made from various distances

Bear in mind these stats are from the top 20 putters on the PGA Tour, you can bet your bottom dollar that the percentages would be a little lower for us mere mortals. Either way, they really do highlight the importance of accuracy with our approach shots, not to mention distance control with our lag putts.

Improve on the greens

Hopefully, you're feeling a little better about your putting and beginning to reassess your expectations when on the greens.

Although you have no divine right to hole any putt, improving your stroke and having a putter that is suited to your technique will help to improve your percentages.
