Wollaton Scratch Team promoted to the highest league in 15 years... For those of you that don’t know, the Nottinghamshire Scratch League is a competition in which all Nottinghamshire golf clubs compete through the season. Individual matches are comprised of five match-play games played without handicaps. Due to the Scratch nature of the competition, the Scratch league is seen as the only true way to establish which clubs currently have the best golfers.
There is a huge amount of kudos associated with a clubs Scratch league position with all the well-respected local courses having top-flight Scratch teams.
I am delighted to report that this year Wollaton Park Golf Club has been promoted to league two of five, this is a huge achievement as games are hard-fought and leagues are incredibly competitive. Our promotion to the new second division represents our highest league position in over fifteen years. So much effort goes into Scratch games from players, supporters, greenkeepers, caterers and admin staff and I’d like to thank them all for their hard work and commitment. The team this year has comprised of twelve players in total who have played with a fantastic team spirit and represented the club with distinction. I have compiled a list of players and their contributions which is worthy of note, I hope that members will take the opportunity to congratulate team players in person. Name Contribution/points; Michael White 13 Dominic Tinsley 11.5 Will Middleton 6 Richard Brearley 5.5 Henry Brewin 3 Andrew Clark 3 Phil Slaney 3 Simon Cowan 2 Simon Newell 2 Rob White 2 Tony Meese 1. I finally would like to thank our travelling supporters Richard Coleman, Phil Slaney and Scratch Vice Captain Barry Moore. Scratch games would not be the same without our fantastic support and I hope that next year a few more members might come and support the team and walk a few holes with the lads. We are always delighted to see Wollaton Park members supporting at our games, even if you haven’t had a formal introduction please feel free to come down say hello. Lastly, from an incredibly proud scratch team captain, I’d like to wish you all well and look forward to bright days ahead for Wollaton Park Golf Club.
Kind Regards, John Taylor.
